Seestjohn.com has a great interview with Bob Garrison on their website. It is definitely worth reading. The Trail Bandit map is THE best map for StJ. The Trail Bandit is a controversial figure, but he loves StJ…
My favorite pull from the interview – Emphasis MINE:
“The Park is being run by “Protection Rangers”, also known as Cops or Goons with Guns. They do very little to help a tourist get to know the park or give information. They ARE IN CHARGE and their ticket pad is never far from their hand. Ever since Superintendent Mark Hardgrove retired, they have been deleting hiking trails from the park by enforced neglect. It is sad to watch and I choose not to watch. Remember, the National Parks belong to the people. The Parks are to be maintained so that people can come visit them and enjoy the experience. The Park Service is supposed to maintain the place and preserve the old buildings, roads, trails, etc. for the enjoyment of future generations. If you look around Virgin Islands National Park you can judge how good a job they are doing. It is not supposed to be a retirement home for Superintendents.”
One of my favorite hikes is from Little Lameshur to the Petroglyphs. It is a long, hot hike but well worth it. If you do decide to try this hike, be sure to take the spur to the Reef Bay Great House. It is a beautiful building. Unfortunately, it is not getting the attention it deserves.
I love the Jeep Cams of St. John and wanted to make one of my own. We made this one which takes us from our Villa in Coral Bay to The Tourist Trap. I actually made this several years ago but I still enjoy watching it. I hope you enjoy it.
We traveled in Oct 2013 with a group of 10 to StJ. After looking at several properties, I decided on Casa Luna and I could not have been happier with the villa. There are 5 bedrooms on 2 levels, 2 kitchens, 4 bathrooms, pool, hot tub, screened in porch, and decking wraps completely around both levels of the house. We never felt crowded. The management company was easy to work with and very professional.
The views from this house are AMAZING! The backside of the house overlooks Leinster Bay and Tortola. In my opinion, it is the best view on the island. We would definitely stay here again if we went with a large group.
Coral Dream is actually one bedroom with an additional loft, but other than that the property is represented truthfully in this video. There is also an outdoor shower on the lower deck of Coral Dream. We have stayed in Coral Dream for several years on vacation-it is perfect for us.
